Super Bowl Spot Shoot week, Night 4

Shot the Super Bowl Spot today. Can't really say much about the actual spot but there are 2 models in it, one of which is one of those chicks that opens suitcases on Deal or No Deal with that no talent ass clown, Howie Mandel. The other chick was supposedly a Victoria Secrets model. Having models around is funny for two reasons:

1.) the obvious reason

2.) Watching how dudes act around them.

In my short experience being around dudes and models, I've noticed that a few archetypes emerge:

+ You have the guy that just wants to small-talk them to death, hoping all the face time will just wear on them and either a.)result in a breakthrough, b.)appear to the other guys that they are actually making progress, c.) allow them time to work up the nerve to make some kind of move
+ The guy that was just friends with chicks in high school. The highlight of that dude's day is the hug goodbye.
+ The dude so threatened by a really hot chick that he works very hard to convince everyone else she is not that hot. He finds random flaws like weird elbows or just simply says, "she's just not my type". Whatever dude. He'll then go on to describe his type, which ends up sounding like the exact opposite of the really hot chick present.

Seriously though, today was the height of my short career. Hopefully I haven't peaked too soon. I was involved with the shooting of a commerical that will appear during the Super Bowl: advertising's biggest stage. Its basically equivalent to if I were a football player and my team made the game, except that if that metaphor were going to work you'd have to say I would be equivalent to an offensive lineman, maybe a tight end at best. Linemen open holes for running backs to run through. I make sure my bosses pay attention to the things they are supposed to and approve them. My shining moment, like Kevin Boss's big catch in last year's Super Bowl, was probably when I said something like "She needs to turn the bottle in her hand a little bit".

Tomorrow we shoot a spot that is basically a male version of today's spot. It is supposed to air during American Idol a couple of times. Kind of the antithesis of today but still important. The director just wrote us all an email about being a pissy little bitch at some points this week. He said he was just passionate. I'm going to remind him he is getting paid a lot of money to shoot scantily clad models pouring sports drink on themselves and chalk his disposition up to the fact that he's from Jersey.

Super Bowl Spot Shoot week, Night 2

We had the pre-production meeting today. I realized I was really into my job (and had gotten a little out of touch with reality) when I didn't think it was weird at all that 2 hours of this meeting were spent discussing if the sports bras and shorts the talent would be wearing was revealing-but-not-too-revealing enough. Some clues that would have helped me come to this realization sooner (and reasons I really like my job are): I had to respond to emails with subjects like "cup size", "sports bras" and "cleavage", I stayed late Friday night researching sports bras that provided tasteful cleavage, and the highlight of my weekend was having my girlfriend try on designer sports bras, expensing the purchase of said sports bras, and remembering I was told to do so by my boss's boss's boss.

LA is very different than NYC. Huge understatement. But...50 degrees and rainy provides a topic for awkward conversation with anyone you meet, its not uncommon to see tables of four texting and ignoring each other for 10 minutes at a time, and happy hour is nowhere to be found. That last one is especially sad. More to come on this...

A company that sells us advertising took us to Koi for dinner tonight. Koi is a trendy sushi spot. There is a Koi in Vegas and New York as well. $1MM to have your logo placed where no one even notices it is worth sushi, wine, dessert, and sales and marketing people agreeing with everything you say because you are the client. Didn't need to come to LA to realize that though.

I'm a little nostalgic because I realized a $1500 dinner doesn't impress me as much anymore. Where we're from a lot of our friends have never tried sushi. But, why pay that dough when the food isn't even cooked. Kinda makes you think the Japanese are lazy. Also, where we're from we have to try a lot harder to make conversation than just bringing up the mid 50 degree and slightly overcast weather in December.

Bobbo trained Tracy Jordan I mean Morgan today. Love the irony in the fact that I'm in LA shooting a Super Bowl spot and Bob's got the best celebrity story I've heard in awhile.

More sports bras and booty shorts tomorrow at final casting. Should be a doozy.

Super Bowl Spot Shoot week, The night before

Decided I'm going to blog this week as I have a feeling its going to be one I'll want to remember...

I'm packing and watching the Giants/Cowboys game. I'm in a real predicament here. Obviously I'm a diehard Giants fan, but I need Romo and TO to have big games and Derrick Ward not to. I'm facing Bily in the playoffs and I would rather watch Sprint's CEO walk and talk in Central Park for 6 hours straight than lose to him. Oh wait...

I'm thinking about taking a stance on chicks kissing. For a while now I've been pretty undecided about the whole thing. It is pretty cool when it goes down, don't get me wrong. Its like staring at the sun. I actually think its one of those ways to make yourself sneeze when you have to and can't get it out, though its definitely not socially acceptable to request with a tissue. I just think its interesting that a little bit of patron turns a girl into a lesbian and a dude into a meathead.

TO is getting booed tonight. He just fell down about a yard shot of the first down. I was kind of hoping John Madden would go on one of those rants about how that play epitomized his season. He didn't...then they showed a sandwhich with sausage, bacon, ham, egg and cheese and Madden talked about it for 2 minutes too long. Thats why he's the best around.

Remember when we were younger and we would subtly communicate things through song lyrics on AIM profiles and away messages. What? No one else did that and I was a loser reading those things all the time? Shit. Anyways, if you know what I'm talking about I'm kind of bummed out that if I had to pick a song from my life now to fill that place it would like look this:

DJB24

"Pain is temporary. Pride is forever."
WG Lax 2002

"I'm standing on my podium. I'm trying to watch my sodium."

Ok, that was random stuff. The rest of the days this week will be more eventful...if you care...

LA or bust.
